Frequently asked questions

How do I pay?

A 25% deposit is taken at the time of booking. The balance is due prior to arrival. Payment can be made by Bank transfer, cheque, cash or PayPal.

What happens if I have to cancel my booking?

If you have to cancel your booking, please let us know as soon as possible in writing (email/post). We will let you know whether you may be entitled to a full or partial refund of the accommodation cost, although the deposit will normally be non-refundable. For more information, please see our booking conditions.

When will directions to the property and check in details be sent?

Directions to the cottage and check in details will be sent at the time of booking and a reminder will be sent a couple of days prior to arrival. The side door of the cottage will normally be unlocked for your arrival but if this is not possible there is a key safe and the code will be sent to you prior to arrival.

Is Wi-Fi included?

Unlimited free Wi-Fi is available at the cottage. 

What facilities are in the local area?

There is a shop and Post Office on the island and also a licensed restaurant. Fuel is available at the shop.

Is there public transport nearby?

There is no public transport on the island apart from the regular ferry to Kirkwall. E bikes can be hired on the island and an electric car and driver can be booked for any trips around the island, e.g. going to the shop, ferry or for sight-seeing.

Are pets allowed?

Sorry, no pets are allowed.

What are the arrival and departure times?

Arrival time is after 2:30pm. Departure time is before 10:30am.

What happens if I have a problem/issue during my stay?

Contact details are given on an information card in the cottage. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch so that a member of our team can help you as soon as possible.

Is the cottage suited to guests with accessibility requirements?

The cottage is all on ground level. The front door has a level entrance and the side door has one step.  The cottage is not totally ‘wheelchair friendly’.

What should we do when we leave the cottage?

We ask guests to leave the cottage clean and tidy and to strip the beds that were used. If this is a problem for you, for example due to a shortage of time on departure, just let us know and a cleaner can be arranged at a cost of £40.

Are power and heating costs included?

Yes.

Are bed linen and towels provided?

All beds will be made up and there will be one hand towel in each toilet/bathroom and six bath towels for guests to use.

Is there free Parking?

 The cottage has private, off road, parking.

Is smoking or vaping allowed inside the property?

Smoking or vaping is not allowed in any part of the cottage. An outside ashtray is provided for guests to use if smoking outside
